Does Spicy Food Cause Piles? Early Symptoms, Causes & Ayurvedic Remedies for Piles
Does Spicy Food Cause Piles

Piles have become a common health concern, just like gas and acidity. Yet, many people are still confused about what actually causes piles. So, is spicy food really the main culprit?

Before blaming spicy food, we need to understand what our Ayurvedic physicians say. Spicy or junk food isn’t healthy, and sometimes burning-hot or fiery food can cause discomfort or irritation, but it’s not the cause of piles. Now let’s begin with the early symptoms and causes of Piles or Hemorrhoids.

Early Complications or Symptoms of Piles:

People hesitate to speak about their problems, even in front of a doctor, so they mostly ignore small early symptoms; some of them don’t even recognize the problem until the condition becomes painful. Let’s break down the early and common symptoms of Hemorrhoids.

I. Internal hemorrhoids develop inside the rectum and are usually painless and invisible, but straining or irritation during bowel movements can cause symptoms.

II. Painless bleeding during passing stool.

III. Small lumps visible in the anal area.

IV. A sensation of incomplete evacuation

V. Sometimes mild pain while passing stools

VI. Itching in the anal area; feeling discomfort after sitting for a long time.

Common Causes of Hemorrhoids (Piles) and Risk Factors:

Swollen blood vessels around the rectum indicate piles that cause bleeding, pain, and discomfort which is common in men and women both. But the causes of piles can sometimes be different because of their body structure, work patterns, lifestyle, and hormones, among other reasons.

Causes of Piles for Women:

Piles often develop during pregnancy and also after childbirth due to rapid hormonal changes. Other reasons are:

  • Pregnancy-related pressure on veins
  • Constipation during pregnancy enhances the risk of piles
  • Unnecessary use of unhygienic sanitary products.

Common Causes of Piles for Men:

  • Unhealthy low-fiber diet with lack of drinking water.
  • Long time working in the dark
  • Alcohol and smoking habits
  • High-protein diet
  • Poor toilet habits

Ayurvedic Approach to Managing Piles (Hemorrhoids):

In Ayurveda, piles are traditionally known as Arsha, and their management focuses on understanding the body’s overall balance and digestive health. The Ayurvedic approach considers the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—and emphasises healthy bowel movements, proper digestion, and balanced dietary and lifestyle habits.

Along with these practices, Ayurvedic formulations containing different herbs are used to support piles care. Ayurvedic piles care capsules may be considered as part of a broader approach to managing piles, depending on their ingredients and intended use. However, their benefits depend on the specific formulation, and they should not be considered a guaranteed cure. Maintaining a fibre-rich diet, drinking enough water, and avoiding straining during bowel movements are also important steps in piles care.
